    Hey,

Just bought a Yamaha Motif ES8 and thus far I have not been able to change
banks on it from Sonar, only patches. If I manually change the bank then I
can select the patch from within Sonar, but Sonar won't change the bank. I
suspect the problem is with the Motif and not with Sonar, but I've read the
manual several times through and can't figure this one out. Can anyone
think of something I missed? The obvious stuff:

"BankSelect" on the Motif is set to "on"

I downloaded the instrument definition file from the internet, but I double
checked the MSB and LSB against the manual and it looks good. I also have
the Motif Rack which uses the same MSB & LSB numbers and I have no problem
    changing the banks on it.

I tried all of the Bank Select methods from within the "Define Instruments
and Names" screen (normal, controller 0, controller 32, patch 100, etc).

It doesn't make sense to me. Anyone?

    Thanks,

    Matt Koskenmaki

Is the Motif in Voice mode or Multi mode (or either) when you're having the
    problem?

Either. Both. There's also a "master" mode for using it as a keyboard
    controller, same thing....

    Hey Matt,

I've got an S90, but I always just use a template in Seq. Play mode.

You can probably get the answers you need here:
    http://www.sninety.com/forums/index.php?Cat=1,3
    It's also a motif forum.

Thank you both I will try the forums... that was going to be my next
question. I had been looking but for some reason didn't find these two.

    Matt,

If you ever find an answer to this please let me what it is and know how you're using it.
I've been using my S90 in master mode with a "mix" template for each song,
but have been curious about PG and Bank for a long time.
Reading the manual never got me anywhere with it and I can't remember what I found at the forum first time I asked.

    Thank you,

    Steve

So... the ES forum was helpful, and I discovered the problem was on Sonar's
end. By much trial and error I was able to rule out any cables, the Yamaha
ES8, and the midi interfaces. Back to the Sonar forum with a new
    problem.....

Sonar won't send bank changes to any instrument on port 1 (the first
instrument listed in the MIDI devices window). It doesn't matter what is
physically connected to port 1 on the midi interface, only what Sonar thinks
of as port 1. (That is, if I move devices up or down in the list, Sonar
will not send bank changes to whatever is listed first, no matter where it
is physically connected). I've found an inelegant work-around by putting my
Roland VK7 first on the list, which doesn't need bank changes. Has anyone
    heard of this? I'm stumped....

This is a fresh install of Sonar 5.01 on a fresh install of Windows XP on a
    brand new computer. Thanks!

    Matt Koskenmaki

By the way, Steve, now that the ES8 is working I'm just using it in Master
mode as a non-multi-timbral instrument. That way I can use the sliders and
knobs to control Sonar, it seems to be the easiest for me....

I still have to figure out how to assign the 4 sliders to specific controllers <g>
Oh well ... it's on my list!

Have you tested this with Sonar 4 or other earlier version? I don't
recall having any problems with bank changes with my QS8, and I always
set it up as the first device. If the problem only exists in Sonar 5
(which I'll not be able to test for a few days) then has it been
    reported to Cakewalk?
