Just purchased a NEW floppy drive replacement for the SY77. These drives are now being sold by Route 66 Studios in Wisconsin. The drive will format a disk but at 100% the error:'write protected' is displayed. (which it is NOT). I know these drives require the older disks (Double Sided/Double Density 720K). I also have the original DEMO DISK from Yamaha and when I try to load all data I get a 'bad disk' error. Any help or your experience would be Really appreciated. Doug In Seattle

It stopped reading some of the disks but I believe the reason is the old age of the disks. The computer doesn't read some of them either I have tried to make copies but only copied some of the files. Old age diskettes. Wouldn't that be you problem ? Vlad
If they were formatted on the Yamaha you may not be able to read on the computer. I used to use HD when I couldn't get DD discs on my sequencer and just reformatted them in the machine and they worked fine. I recently tried those old ones and they work fine . The ones I'm having problems with are the old ones formatted by the SY77. Today, we can't format the DD on the XP , unless there is a program that performers that function. You may want to subscribe to this group and discuss the problem with them http://www.ampfea.org/mailman/listinfo/w-list The group is dedicated to the Yamaha W5/W7 but the problem is common to both models. Not sure about XP but with ME you have the option of formatting 720 k discs.
