I'm a beginner piano student at the age of 53. I want a keyboard to use as a piano and also as a midi device to control virtual instruments (strings, organ, etc). I'm torn between buying a digital piano like the yamaha p 95 or a straight midi controller that doesn't necessarily have piano type keyboard action.

Would appreciate any comments or other brand suggestions. I'd really like to just get something with 76 keys since most music doesn't seem to need the full 88 keys on a piano.

    Thanks,
    Rut

If you're gonna be playing the piano (sound) most of the time (or all the time), then this really is a no brainer. Get a stage/home piano with fully graded/weighted 88 keys.

P95 sounds just about right. You can always connect it to your PC via USB, and use it as a controller
