Finding a piano when you travel

Curiously, I was in the UK, and some of the major train stations have pianos in them for people to play, curtesy of regional piano store. This was more in Scotland, but I wouldn't be surprised if England had some as well. Also, Brisbane (AU) airport has one, and I ended up on a Japanese TV show...

How did you become a keyboard player?

Hard to judge about the obscurity between fusion and prog. Jazz itself has become pretty niche, but the bulk of it today would fall under the fusion umbrella. Prog is an obscure part of a huge genre. Obviously fusion has faired better amongst jazzers than prog has amongst rockers. Whatever, the...

How did you become a keyboard player?

I was crazy into music when I was just a little tike. I was a strange child. I memorized most of Muzzorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition when I was about 5 (not playing, humming it around town, driving people crazy). We had a dinky piano in my house in rural Alaska, I used to just sit there and...

Some keys are accented, and not touch sensitive?

Hahaha... yeah, I'll admit, I was in a SUPER bad mood at the time.

Some keys are accented, and not touch sensitive?

I have little patience for those who "try to be helpful" while failing to actually LISTEN to the problem at hand. Sorry not sorry.

Perhaps you need to read the post.

Some keys are accented, and not touch sensitive?

Technically, Hawaii has banned smoking, but the bars I play at are owned by a group who's managed to skirt by the issue. Personally, I find myself torn on the issue. I don't smoke and I understand why places are banning smoking in bars to protect staff, but I grew up thinking of a bar as a...

Some keys are accented, and not touch sensitive?

The fact that they are all in a row is pretty indicative of a ribbon chord problem. Keybeds have small ribbon connectors that are split into regions of 5-10 keys. If anything happens to a range of keys like this, you can be pretty sure a ribbon is at fault. Thankfully, the most common cause is...

    Voices...

I'm not sure the Essentials use Fatar beds. I've been talking with many Keylab users, and I've heard the Essentials are severely inferior to the Mk1 and new Mk2 controllers. The Mk2s are coming out pretty much ANY DAY. Yes, they are about 50% more than the Essentials, but they're fantastic...

    Reggae Piano Keyboard

If you're looking for JUST a piano and no central controls, this might be the perfect fit for a low-budget, but very serviceable "Digital Grand" in the $500-$600 range. Anything above that price and you're going to get lots of control surfaces, other sound engines, and additional features. Since...

Crumar Mojo61 - lack of preset buttons

I'm very close to pulling the trigger on a Mojo61. A substantial percentage of my gigs are organ parts, and I'd love to have all the controls right there at my finger tips. It seems like most people prefer it's sound to the Suzuki, Nord, and Viscount options, and it's nice that it offers some...

To buy or not buy..that's the question

Yeah... until I come out with my wireless keytar and dance with the girls on the dance floor.

Connecting the Korg Kronos with Alesis Vortex wireless keytar

I've never used the presets on the Vortex. I just change the presets on my main board, which it mirrors. I use the bottom 4 pad buttons to switch between my first 4 patches in the current setup/song. I never use hardware presets on dumb controllers, the head/software does all the work anyway.

To buy or not buy..that's the question

Keyboardist: individual who spends hours and days researching multi-thousand dollar gear, frequently visits music stores, pesters spouses and passer-by's with random gear-related musings, but never buys anything. Guitarist: "Oooh, shiny! That color will go good with my shoes!"

    Travel keyboard woes and indicision

Yeah... it's expensive AF. Gonna hold off a few months to make sure I've got my finances in order, make sure other users don't find some crazy defects, and I'll probably do a year financing plan.
