New Synth - and some observations.

I agree. For me - its about variety of sound though. I could replace the DM with the prophet 6 - or replace the Argon8 with a Prophet 6 keyboard OR a Take 5 keyboard. They were both options (well still are to be fair). the FX on the P6 (partly why I went for it over the P5) are functional...

New Synth - and some observations.

They do indeed, but st the expense of other things. Not just the fx (pro3 and take 5 are better but still not fantastic) bit mod routings (again both better). Peak, dm, virus are all light years ahead there. To be fair both dm and virus do have a lot of hands on control of basic synth...

New Synth - and some observations.

This arrived today: Im comparing this with a Virus Ti2 (desktop), a Peak and a Deep Mind 12. Ive not compared it to my Argon8 as Im moving that on (but havent got its replacement yet) or my Fantom 7 as thats a controller anyway so wouldnt be moved. This is where the interesting bit...

    Problem with FA-06

The answer would seem to be..dont use arturia.....Thats said I tried the demos version of pigments and had no problem using my Fantom 7 as a controller - so it seems its just setup in Pigments.

    Problem with FA-06

Sounds like Reaper isn't configured to accept external midi notes... or if it is not on the correct channel. Remember the FA transmits on one channel per track - so track 1 is midi channel 1m track 6 is midi channel 6. Its fine if reaper is get to global (in which case its not set up for...

    Problem with FA-06

Its 2 years since I let my FA go - replaced wit a Fantom 7.... However, you will need to enable external control and be in the correct track on the Fantom - and its ending midi notes in of course not audio... A midi monitor (freely available) can help track down if the FA is actually sending...

How/where do you place your monitors?

The speaker dont have to be at ear level - the tweeters (small cones) should be facing AT your ears, but they can angle up or down, left and right to do so. Ideally in an equilateral triangle - so the gap between the speaker cones is the same as the distance to your ears at sitting./playing...

How/where do you place your monitors?

wed need a budget... define affordable. My affordable ones cost £2k inc sub... thats not affordable for others. Id definitely go "studio monitor" not hifi. Put them just behind the VR, to the left and right edge, and angle them to your sitting position. As in the picture above BUIT angle...

Sold old keyboards and need something new, should I buy Keyscape or a real keyboard like Nord or Fantom or Kronos??? Fantom8

Go for a Fantom 8. I have the 7 - but also an RD2000 (which has the same keybed). I already had the RD, and thought about the 8 - but its 10kg heavier than the already chuncky RD and I gig a lot - hence added the 7 rather than replace the RD with an 8. Sonically - for piano - its personal. I...

Gear space (studio, home room, closet...) blogs/tours - Ill show you mine if you show me yours.

I use Studio One (still on 4) as my main DAW. I do have reaper loaded as well, but it doesnt get used these days. I also have Cantible as a VST host for soft synths that doenst need the DAW booting up. VST wise, I have Cheery Audios Modular, OB-Xd (as its free) and Diva. I also have...

ive tried..... Audio Flow: The Little Zoom CDR is nice, and is in the FX send of the line mixer so can be used on any single (usually) synth. I can use it like a master send though for reverb on multiple synths if I want to. The AFX (I play guitar and thats my main rig anyway) does the same...

had a play around - bought a vis mount arm and clamp - so now the TR8s "floats" above the spare corner... It can be pulled out really close - easy to use or pushed back against the wall/window when not in use (so as not to block the speaker). The Pyramid now sits under it on the desk - tucks...

Yamaha Montage & the Roland Fantom Workflow:

For live, the Fantom. It's just intuitive and accessible. In a studio it's less important to have that v depth. It becomes a personal preference.
