Hi all,

I was looking for a turorial how to convert Yamaha styles to a usable Medeli style. There are many but not what I am looking for.

I alread know that many Yamaha styles are available on different webpages. I know how to load the files in Grand Suite and convert them to a Medeli style.

Problem is that most of the converted syles sound terrible and I am interrested why and how can this be fixed. Maybe there are additional software tools needed. Do you know a tutorial which explains the process.

I think RITMOSTY did exactly this and a very good job.

One example is the style young fox. Doesn't matter which version I tried to convert with Medeli Grand Suite they all sound terrible.

Would be good if someone could help.
I assume this might be interessting for many Medeli users.

Kind regards,
Marcel

Hi Marcel

You may, or may not be aware that Yamaha took Medeli to court last year, and successfully sued them for copyright infringement.

For that reason, you'll probably find NO software that will convert styles in the way you wish.

Any software developer doing so would probably be in Yamahas gunsights pretty quickly.

That didn't stop Medeli from releasing a new version, which is a clone of ak-x10 with some styles and sounds from their extension pack included as a standard set. They likely settled the case.

What new version? You mean the AKX1100, which was the same board, with much of the expansion flash ram stripped out; released the same year (both 2021); exclusively carried by Thomann? Or is there another newer Medeli that I missed?

AFAIK there has been nothing from Medeli (no new announcements or product releases) since Jan 2022, when Yamaha successfully sued them?

Sounds like 1987 and Apple sueing the clonemakers out of existence.

History repeats like bad gas...

Thanks for finding that, Concord!

That's odd..... number of voices, and specs, but 20 new styles... that's an odd... upgrade... It would appear this is not so much a case of a new release, but a re-release to make it compliant (they most likely reworked the styles to avoid any that were reverse engineered from Yamaha).

but the cost also went from $1199 CAD to $1599 CAD... maybe they kept the styles exactly the same, added 20 more to justify the increased cost (to cover what they had to pay out to Yamaha?)

But the sound library, and everything else are identical (the AKX1100, sound library was identical but they reduced the expansion area; AKX10s even the expansion area is identical to the AKX10

You can see comparing them side by side, this appears to be a lawsuit compliant re-release rather than a full fledged new product

(Yes I realize they wrote 1100 voices instead of 1133, but the descriptions all say "over 1100 voices" on the original AKX10.

I found the same difference. Well, in my experience, I learn how to edit the styles. First, we choose the style we want to use on Medeli. We save it as user style. Then, we open it on User styles and press Edit. On the edition we can change the sounds included on the style. The difference is based on the location of the sounds on a Yamaha keyboard and on a Medeli keyboard. We can make some changes on the panning of the different parts. Mure: There is a second window, more specialized, where we can record each part, of the style, modifying it to a good style according to our taste. This is a rebuilt made by us. So, we have a good reason for spending some hours to understand how this works. I bet you will like very much this ressource. Go ahead. Greetings from Portugal.
