Hello musicfriends,☺️

Question.

When I play a certain song, I would like for intermission/break pressing a multipad button a drum session for
about a half-minute or a whole minute. I Think I can create my own drum session with the multipad creator. But I don’t understand to do so. In the reference manual, they talk about “Repeat and Chord match” it is possible with the metronome to play on that ritme.

The Chord match is CEG in C major. Must I play these keys one by one, or all three together? And where to play? In the chord section or in de voice section? I really do not understand. Suppose I would like a drum session with different voices from a percussion and drums, must the multipad creator in each mutipad create a voice, or can multipad create in one button four different voices?

I would like to use voice "PERC & DRUMS" for creating these drum sessions. Is there anyone to give me answers on my questions? I really appreciate your advice or help me to move into the right direction.

If your multipad consists exclusively of drums and percussion, chord match is neither necessary nor desired. The idea of chord match applies when the multipad contains a chromatic phrase, it will be transposed in real time correlating to the currently played chord (like a non-percussion style track.)

If you create a drum multipad and specify chord match, the arranger might try to transpose it which will result in using instrument samples other than the ones you recorded with.

Hope this helps!

Hello TedS,

In the manual is written a chord match in c majure, It says play CDE GAB what does it mean? Must I play these keys to get a chord match C = Chord R = Recommended note so do I play first CRC and again CRC. I’am sorry but I don’t understand any of this. Please look at the tekst below from the manual.

7 Play the keyboard to start recording.

To ensure that your recording will be in sync with the tempo, touch [Metronome] to turn on the metronome.
If you want to insert silence before the actual phrase, press the STYLE CONTROL [START/STOP] to start both
the Recording and rhythm playback (of the current Style). Keep in mind that the rhythm part of the current Style
plays back during recording although it is not recorded.

Recommended notes for the Chord Match phrase
If you intend to create a Chord Match phrase, use the notes of C, D, E, G, A and B, or in other words, play the
phrase in the key of C major. This ensures that the phrase will stay harmonically constant and match whichever
chord you play in the left hand section of the keyboard.

8 Stop recording.

Press the MULTI PAD CONTROL [STOP] button or the STYLE CONTROL [START/STOP] button to stop
recording when you’ve finished playing the phrase.

greetings, Ton

You didn't say which Yamaha you have. On the newer models that I have experience with, a multipad can OPTIONALLY have chord match, or not. As I stated in my first post, if your multipad consists only of drums/percussion, it doesn't need chord match and you shouldn't specify it. Consequently, you can ignore the part in the manual that states your pattern should only consist of the CMaj7 tones CDEGAB.

Hello Teds,
My keyboard is an Yamaha psr-sx700. The chord match was not only for percussion/drums but also for other voices.
I mentioned it as an example. II still do not know what to do with your information. Must I play, when I record the chord match the notes CDE en then GAB ? or something else. I must confess I'am a newbe for use of my keyboard.
Are there any examples what I can play?

Hello Lacko,
Yes I tried to record a drum session, It was terrible to hear, I played first the notes CDE and then GAB. but as I wrote, the drum was just an example, other voices sounds as ugly when I play a style. I think I'am doing something wrong, but I don't know what, Is there any information how te create a chord match. the description in the manual is not clear for me.

I do not know the answer. Never I followed a course to play keyboard. I learned to play by practice en practice.
Suppose I say in C majure is this then a correct answer? The chord could be C F A and many more.
I need to have examples to read, see or hear what to do to create a chord match.

Drum notes don't have a chord or scale. If you're doing a drum pattern just play the beat you want (and quantize it, otherwise it won't loop properly). CDE GAB *only* applies to chords. Not drums.
