I got a chance to go play with a new band. They sent me some songs to learn. I have to play tunes that had no keyboards originally. I'll just learn the chord structure and bang away on my Wurly.

Sultans
Listen to her heart
Feel like makin love
Little sister
Lonely ol night
Secret agent man
Somebody's baby
Something
You may be right
You wreck me
And about 30 covers I've been playing for years...

I'll practice with them Sunday, they have gigs coming up though. Should be another source of fun money.

You gotta throw some Jon Lord style CRUNCHY HAMMOND into a couple of those!

If you don't do it -- who will?

The drummer was an hour and a half late, and showed up drunk... we fired him.
Got to play Green Eyed Lady and Court of the Crimson King though, and the new guitar guy did really well. I used guitar tab charts for the songs new guy added and mostly used B3 settings - worked well. Now I need to find a drummer so we can go make money.

Listen to her heart
(organ layered over piano)

Feel like makin love
(organ layered over piano)

Little sister
(piano - chords in left hand, stead 1/8 notes in right)

Lonely ol night
(organ layered over piano)

Secret agent man
(cheesy Vox or Farfisa organ sound)

Somebody's baby
(Rhodes w/organ layered over it)

Something
(piano w/strings or light organ layer)

You may be right
(generic synth - sawtooth wave type sound)

You wreck me
(organ layered over piano)

And about 30 covers I've been playing for years...

I have played all those tunes on keys with bands - see notations in your list.

Tom Petty tunes usually have especially nice piano & organ parts -
Benmont Tench is just great with having just the right sounds for each song!

What is the band name?
What age group is your audience?
Please don't put "sweet caroline" in your set. It is already over cooked.
A couple of suggestions featuring keyboard are "whiter shade of pale" and "time is tight"
Cheers

The very well-known problem with drummer. :) One day I radically solved the problem by Boss DR -880. Now our bassist also will think about alcohol before the performance. :))))

Band name is "Flashback" - classic rock. Audiences seem to be older in all the gigs I've done with a couple other bands I play in. Like in their 50's. BTW, I've never played Sweet Caroline 😀 but I sing and play Whiter Shade of Pale. And Booker T ya! Been a while since I've done that one! 😎

Sweet Caroline is one of those over-played bar/party band songs that many musicians HATE - but doesn't really bother me, as it usually means people are having a really good time and enjoying the band.

Although there are times when the "Play Sweet Caroline!" mandate comes from a bunch of drunken idiots & then it just makes you (the band) feel like a bunch of cheap whores.

Other examples of "mass appeal" songs that people love - but many musicians I work with hate:
  • Brown Eyed Girl
  • Mustang Sally
  • Margaritaville
  • What I Like About You
  • Sweet Home Alabama
  • Roadhouse Blues
  • Piano Man
  • Old Time Rock + Roll
  • Livin' On a Prayer (I live in NJ so Bon Jovi is huge here)
  • Don't Stop Believin'
(I live in NJ so The Sopranos is huge here - this song was featured in the very last scene of the series)
I actually don't have issue with most of these tunes - although I could live without playing the last 3 ever again (Old Time R+R, Don't Stop & Livin' on Prayer) having played them over and over at so many wedding gigs over the years! lol
