DGX-670 - MIDI - DAW - VST changing all channels at once

I have a new DGX-670. I want to play the DGX-670 as a MIDI keyboard into the DAW (trying Reaper and Waveform 13) then playback through MIDI to the chosen DGX sounds. I'm having some success, but in Reaper, if I use the ReaControlMIDI VST to choose a patch (piano) and assign it to Channel 2, then I have another track that I assign a different patch (strings) to channel 3. The VST is assigning the strings to channel 2 as well.

Am I not understanding something in the MIDI process? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

you "want to play DGX-670 into DAW"
- you send Note-Events on a channel that DGX-670 will send (Midi out) to same channel of DAW (Midi in)
- you send program-change events on a channel DGX will send (Midi out) to same channel of DAW (Midi in)

you playback DAW to DGX
- you send Note-Events on a channel of DAW will send (Midi out) to same channel of DGX (Midi in)
- you send program-change events on a channel DAW will send (Midi out) to same channel of DGX (Midi in)

you send a patch from DAW to DGX via channel2
- you send program-change event via channel2 of DAW (Midi out) to channel2 of DGX (Midi in)
- DGX will accept a program-change on channel2
- nothing else happens to change channels of tracks Note-Events sent from DGX via channel2, because
in case you changed a patch via channel3 to Midi-In of DGX does not mean,
DGX would send its tracks (Note-Events) sent previously via channel2 now with channel3
