So, I'm not sure of proper way to handle this...

I have a song I recorded that has 3-4 tempo changes, 1 being just 1 measure long. When I play it while recording, I of course follow those changes.

I am using Soundslice, and it follows the tempo markers in the music. But then when recording on the Yamaha, it doesn't know about the tempo change, and when I slow down, it just spreads what I'm playing over more measures. In the end, the measure count is off.

So, I'm wanting to use a DAW (I'm quite green with them for now), and have settled on Cubase 14. Measures wrong presents a problem.

Anyone doing this? How do you handle situations like this?

What exactly Yamaha keyboard do you mean? If Yamaha PSR - than rather often it sends to DAW several SYSEX while you turn Tempo setting.

The model is in the subject line of the post...DGX 670.

I'm not recording from the Yamaha to the DAW. I'm recording to a midi on the Yamaha, and importing into the DAW.

I'm not quite sure what you mean, There are SYSEX files that import into the DAW with the song. But I'm not able to tweak the tempo setting while playing the song.

I like using Tempo Tracks. But given the situation with this song, it's a problem.

I would also like do be able to do something similar to Tempo Tracks, but for setting volume levels. For example, the sheet music may have MF , F, FF, FFF, etc. Setting that in the DAW would make the volumes consistent. I haven't seen anything like that in the DAW. I'll just have to go to the appropriate measure and make the setting. But I need to solve the varying measure problem first.

What I would to do...
1. How did you record the tempo changing on PSR?
2. Do you have any SYSEX for tempo-changing when you open your MIDI file in DAW? Playback your MIDI file from DAW directly to PSR - do you hear any Tempo-changing?
3. I don't know about Cubase - does Tempo Track also take effect on MIDI tracks, not only on Audio tracks...
4. Do you want MF,F,FF,FFF to take effect on EACH note or on several notes? Anyway - it's better to insert series values of Controller #11 (Expression). Don't use Controller 7 (Volume)!!
5. Using Sonar it is very easy to draw tempo-changings

Well, if this was reaper, I would signpost you to Kenny Goia!
So I figured there was probably someone similar for Cubase.........

If you're using the Yamaha DGX-670, there is a section in the manual under Section 4, Songs, about re-recording sections of the midi file that has already been recorded. On page 53, it tells how to set a Punch-In and Punch-out location for re-recording sections you want to change. When re-recording, only the section between the Punch-In and Punch-Out locations are affected. You will be able to hear the recorded song before and after the re-recorded section.
