After watching several Youtube videos, Diva is highly recommended as the best synth VST.
The best video is U-He Diva - Best 50 Presets [beautiful sounds, no talking]

I heard that and wow, those are the sounds I am looking for. Yes, beautiful.
So I coughed up over $200 and bought the VST.
I was pretty disappointed in the presets that it comes with. I went back to that video and searched some of those 50 presets.
Oh, they don't exist. It appears that I have to buy several packages from creators to get those sounds.

Am I missing something here like a free download, or did I get scammed? Bait and switch.

This is what you get when rent software instead of buying hardware.

Digital imitations are just that, poor imitations of the real thing anyway.

If you want a REAL synth experience, than pick up a Prophet or a Take 5 or a PolyMOOG. :D

Never mind farting around with digital approximations of that real analog bite that comes from dialling in your own unique patch.

Since I've left the careFREE (as in beer!) environment of open source behind, now I must suffer the loathesome shovelware/freeware/adware crap that they push on the app store and pay thru the nose for something as simple as a file converter. :p

The commercial stuff has all been ripped off from open source to begin with.

But Apple and M$ have slid them into sexy, idiot-proof packages and jacked up the price to what the market is willing to bear.

There are lies, three are damn lies, and there are software demos :p

I just feel burned that somebody made a video "Best 50 Presets" they sounded great, that is what sold me on the VST.
It should say "Best 50 Presets (THAT ARE NOT INCLUDED) Pay extra. Batteries not included.

There are a few presets in the VST that sound good. But all of the ones in that video that sound great are pay to play.

First off, Diva is a phenomenal synthesizer. It's far and away the best virtual analog synth I have. I have a Moog Grandmother, a Novation Summit, several Yamahas, an Ensoniq SQ1, a Waldorf Streichfett - all hardware synths, some in the thousands of dollars - and I find myself STILL using the Diva. With that being said, the demo you referenced (Pacific Base) is not from U-he, the manufacturer of Diva. A lot of synth gurus will make patches and then sell them online, and this appears to be a list of some of the better ones. I see Luke Neptune is referenced and he's a popular patch vendor. However, a lot of those patches are not too far away from some of the factory presets which you should probably be able to emulate without too much work - even with little experience. Or, you can check out one of the people who make presets and buy their package of patches. They're usually not very expensive - like $10-20 for several dozen patches. Make sure they're for the Diva though! 😅 It sounds like you're not familiar with software synths yet. You should probably learn about them, as you're missing out on 90% if you're merely using presets. Diva comes with a pretty extensive manual that can be used as a textbook. But as far as a good old-fashioned analog VST goes, you've got the best, IMHO. Other good VSTs are wave tables like Serum or sample-based ones like Omnisphete, but if you love the sound of a traditional synthesizer, Diva is the way to go.

Thanks Cariboux for the great input. I didn't quite know what to ask, but that was the explanation I needed.
I'm glad to hear that you consider Diva the best. I have several other VST that were free or low cost and most not very good, so Diva was a big investment. It is worth learning. That is good to know.

I have Serum also. It was one that I paid more for, and it was worth it. It has some good sounds and is actually pretty easy to learn. But I have spent lot of hours with not a lot to show for it. It is real different, does not have the rich complex chord sounds and pads I am looking for.

I guess I will buy one or two of those sound packages for Diva and see how that works.
I have had several synths in the last 8 years, sold one to buy another, should have kept some of them, but I am trying to keep my gear simple with one synth and VSTs.
It is good to know that low profile concept may actually work.

Diva is a nice compliment to Serum, as they are completely different, the former being an analog model and the latter a wave table. I don't own Serum but am familiar with it and have used several others; you're going to find it a lot easier to use Diva. Diva operates just like an old fashioned analog synth. As a matter of fact, there are presets on it that will make it look a bit and act like some of the classic synths. Definitely brush up on analog / subtracitve synthesis and read the manual. If you dint have it, you can D/L it from the U-he website. The only issue I have with going the all-out computer route is the hobgoblin of audio latency - that is the brief delay in time it takes for the hardware and software to process the sound between hitting the key and hearing it in your monitors. I have a Scarlett 2i2 audio interface because it gets decent ratings and doesn't cost a mint, but that several millisecond delay drives me nuts when I'm playing a stacatto sound really fast. Some people don't notice it at all; others, it drives nuts; hopefully you're toward the former end of the spectrum. Now, I render the individual sequences as WAVs and export them to a Tascam 24-track to have something to record along with while playing live. Then I import the live WAV files back into my DAW. I know... shipping coals to Newcastle. But that's how much the latency bugs me. I use FL Studio (and other than that, I love it), so maybe a different DAW would be faster. I don't know. Good luck with your work - and it can be work! 😅

I use M-Audio M-Track 2x2M and in CakeWalk Sonar I use 16 samples ASIO buffer - no delay at all (less than 1 ms) - so I can play MIDI keyboard or sing with some effects in DAW in real time without any delay!

These are the words of man who never heard really good software analogs of real musical instruments.

With which VST are you getting < 1 ms? All of them task the CPU and integrate with the DAW differently. What processor and how much RAM do you have? I'm not planning on changing from my Tascam set-up, but it might be helpful for the OP. I can usually get fairly acceptable latency (~ 3 ms), but only when running just one or two tracks at a time. But when I get deep into a project, the problem never fails to rear its head. And some VSTs - like EZ or Superior Drummer - are real CPU hogs.

You know, from the Windows 10 there is internal audio-driver WASAPI and using that driver I have (WITHOUT ANY ASIO!!!) the latency 2.9 msec.
(sorry - Video is in Russian and sorry for my playing) I used Hybrid, Korg Triton, Roland D50 and Dune 3 software synths simultaneously (!!!) without any delay! And Yesterday I made the recording of singing of my son using M-Audio M-Track 2x2M sound card into CakeWalk Sonar DAW with the ASIO Buffer size - 16 Samples (otherwise he heard the latency when he sang). You maybe know, that the Buffer Size 128 samples brings the delay 2.9 msec. So - you can calculate what latency brings 16 samples - is about 2.9\8 = 0.36 msec.
To say truth - the latency of 2.9 msec is not noticeable when you play MIDI keyboard. But when you will use the microphone you will have 2.9 msec for IN and 2.9 msec for OUT = nearly 6 msec - delay can be noticeable.
Forgot to say - my comp is AMD Rizen 5 5500U and 16 Gb RAM.
If you need - I'll spend a time (not today) and record the video with Superior Drummer also without any delay. To say - here is some video I made to show how it is possible to make sounds of software Arranger and Software synths (also - Superior Drummer, Kontakt, Ample Guitar and some others you can see on screen). https://disk.yandex.ru/client/disk/___Свалка?idApp=client&dialog=slider&idDialog=/disk/___Свалка/8888.MP4

I have a PC with Intel I-7 2.9 GHz with 32 GB Ram. When I upgraded to Ableton 12, CPU use went thru the roof.
I had a Scarlett 2i2 GEN 1, ancient interface.
I bought a M-Audio Air 19218, that solved the problem. The drivers for a PC are an important part.

I don't notice the latency, but I'm sure it is there, just another thing I need to improve.
