Hammond SK1 external zones - I'm missing something

I want to use my Hammond Sk1 to control an external synthesizer. This works nicely when setting the Upper keyboard TX channel.

But I can not figure out how to get an external zone to transmit any midi data. I set the SWITCH to ON. I allocated it to the upper keyboard. I gave it a note range covering the entire keyboard. But still no notes. There's something I'm missing...

I figured it out. In addition to everything I did, external zones have to be turned on in the top level menu.

Maybe this keyboard has too many settings. Or maybe I'm just dense. Equally likely.
