Hello
Im a newbie to thiss website/forum
I'm a beginner piano/keyboard player
I own three synths:
KORG Triton Extreme 88
PROPHET 8 Dave Smith Instruments
* Roland V-Synth GT
*Just ordered from Sweetwater this afternoon overnite shippping, delivery scheduled Dec 26 10am
I just completed piano 1 at community college & music theory.
I have alot to learn and much practicing.
My ambitions are to develop and become skilled enough to join a band someday, and become good like you guys

Thanks for email and encouragement!
I have a long way to go.....reading and playing needs work and can be remedied thru repetition which i must admit not dedicating time after work each nite.
I just started 2yrs ago on and off.
I'm hanging in there i've learned "you get what you put into it".
What does your rig consist of?

Hope you had a great Christmas so far.

I'm a beginner key player myself. I took piano lessons when I was in elementary school, later switched to cornet/trumpet and stopped everything musical in early Jr. High.

Fast forward a few decades, after wanting a keyboard since college, I just now finally jumped in and I'm loving it. After a lot of research, I decided on a Korg M50-88.

Yeah, my xmas was especially enjoyable
I learned to play "Silent night" from FJS Piano Christmas book. Single notes.
Not too bad for jumping in and banging away, my mom is staying with me for the holidays and said i need to practice.
Anyhow:
Nice choice on the M50!
I checked it out last month it was release, very nice patches.
The strings, pads, woodwinds & combis sound great!
I'll bet you cannot wait to power it up and jam into the night
Enjoy it, let me know what patches you like.
On my TRITON Extreme88 their is a patch "Watcher of the skies" it's a Mellotron string sound right out of the Genesis Foxtrot era.
Does it exist in you sound banks?

Christmas was pretty good here too. I've been practicing a few songs and scales out of Humphries' The Piano Handbook. I had a heck of a time with the two-octave scales yesterday, but this morning my fingers are much closer to automatically doing the 3-4-3 finger crossover pattern. I'm also getting better at playing by ear single-note melodies from a few Christmas songs.

Yes, you are right about my keyboard... I can't get enough of it! :D I'd love to crank up the volume, but I don't think the family would appreciate my fun. :eek:

I took a look for "Watcher of the Skies" and for Mellotron, but I didn't find either. Perhaps there is something similar though, and I just don't know what to search for.

How's that Silent Night coming along today? ;)

Watcher of the Skies (patch)

Hi
I discovered the patch "watcher of the skies"
Program mode: J115 Watcher of the skies
Very close to the mellotron "strings".
I did not take the time to go thru some of the program banks, just a few string, pad patches.
M50 sounds pretty nice.
What is a "3-4-3" technique?
I've never heard of that excersise.

Too bad I don't have a J115!

As you know, fingering for a one-octave scale works like this:

Left Right
C D E F G A B C C D E F G A B C
5 4 3 2 1 3 2 1 1 2 3 1 2 3 4 5

For more a multi-octave scale, use 3-4-3 fingering like this:

Left Right

At first it feels odd doing a cross over with your ring finger, but after your hands get used to the extra stretch you hardly notice it.
