Sound doesn't have to be amazing, but they do have to have good isolation...want to keep it under $100 (or about right at $100 at most). Anyone with experience in the lower end and why you would/wouldn't recommend them?

The famed Koss Pro4AA. Only con, they're heavy. I've had mine since 1980, still going strong. They are STILL being mfg'd with the same 'recipe'. They hit a home run. Right at your budget point. Dont believe me, check the reviews at the below link. Check Amazon for a better price.

I have Sennheiser.
They are superbly isolated.
I have them quite loud and there is no sound escape. I have asked my wife, she says cannot hear anything.

You @bill5 said you don't care about amazing sound, but you will get it anyway with Sennheisers.
Mine are model HD300.

They're also $200, twice what he wants to pay.

Sennheiser 280 are £72 here so should be in budget over in the USA.

There is also their 206 which at £22 is very cheap and they do sound acceptable, and as it is I bought a pair for my Grandkids to use when they played on my keyboard which is how I know they sound pretty good.

I hadn't realised they cost that much. I have had mine for many years. I'd forgotten what I paid.

As a matter of interest and appreciation, I remember asking for advice (from this forum) on good headphones 🎧 way back years ago.

I think it was good old @Biggles who directed me to Sennheiser.

Cheers

Not quite on topic but I can still remember the very first time I heard music through a pair of stereo headphones, back in 1969. My then girlfriend (now wife for over 52 years) and I were wandering round the Scottish Exhibition showroom in Glasgow, Scotland and I saw a pair of Goodmans headphones hooked up to a display, with an invitation to try them out.

As soon as I put them on, I was blown away with the sound quality and isolation from the noise of passing traffic. I waved my GF over, not realising that I was shouting with excitement at what I had just discovered but the excitement kind of died off when I saw the price - £22. That was way out of reach when I was only earning around £10/week and saving up to get married. How things have changed - I've lost count of the number of headphone sets I've had since then.
