Hello, I am nof from New Zealand. Way back in the 1990s I had an Amiga computer and software called Deluxe Music. I connected my Yamaha Keyboard and played on the thing for some years but sadly I had to change to a PC during that decade. I am at the beginning again. Same keyboard but I can't get the midi program I like and although I am connected I can't play anything. I have Anvil Studio but is seems to be way over my head. I just want to play and later get music CDs and play along. Simple really but with a little bit of help I could be playing today or tomorrow. Is there a kind person out there in the big wide world who can give me a place to start please?
Thank you

Welcome aboard Nof...

Are you looking for MIDI playing software or MIDI composing software?

For composing MIDIs anvil studio is pretty much one of the simplest ones out there.

However you might also want to take a look at Notation Composer and Notation Musician.

http://www.notation.com/

Otherwise, as far as MIDI playing and tutorial software goes, two excellent programs are Pianobooster and Synthesia.

http://pianobooster.sourceforge.net/

http://www.synthesiagame.com/

Also take a look at the sticky thread here on the forums listing many useful music and tutorial links.

Hope to be hearing good stuff from you soon... ;)

I may have gotten ahead of myself because in the last 30 mins or so Anvil Studio recorded for me and it played it back to me. Now I have some reason for getting up in the morning. I am going to look through the programs mentioned. Also Piano for Dummies site has helped. "Using a Midi System with Digital Keyboard".

Thanks everyone. I'll see you around

Thank you for administrating this forum Becky. I am still enthused to be back with the keyboard but have had to concentrate on various things which have precluded me from writing. I have arguments with the laptop beside the keyboard and we are waiting for inspiration.

Back soon
