Once the music is recorded and mixed, it goes through a process of mastering the songs. Mastering is the art of perfecting the music by adding finishing touches to the track. Ha ha yes, although much of what is mentioned is fair I suppose. It does make a difference to have your music mastered. These days there is a real DIY ethic and I think it is sometimes underestimated what an audio professional can do for your sound. I think it is absolutely great that people can make music at home I find that incredibly inspiring and of course most importantly fun. But there is much to be said for pro engineering as well. Mastering is a bit of a dark art for some I think. It can seem shrouded in mystery but really it is all about very accurate monitoring conditions and very high resolution monitoring systems that allows the engineer to instantly make small and incremental adjustments which all add up to a larger enhancement overall.
