MIDI connection

Hello all, I've connected a midi to USB adapter to my older keyboard to my laptop, the one I used stated no driver needed. I'm using Finale as my DAW. What I'm trying to do is to play my keyboard and have the notes show up on the screen. Seems like it would be simple but I must be doing something wrong. Any suggestions? Thank you

Try another USB-MIDI adapter.

Those things have a high infant mortality rate.

And make sure IN is connected to OUT and vice versa.

And... also be sure you don't use any cheap Chinese MIDI2USB cable. When you said "no driver needed" first I thought about such cable.
