Midi implementation MX61

I want to use a Roland A-Pro 500, to trigger Program Dec in my Yamaha MX61, via the A-Pro's Expression pedal.
The controller works great, as far as playing the MX61 sounds. I have the A-Pro set to midi channel 2 and whatever the secondary sound in a performance, the A-Pro will play.
Any answers? Any resources you could recommend?

You need to program either the A-500 to send what the MX61 is looking for as a Prog Dec command or program the MX61 to accept, as a Prog Dec command, whatever the A-500 is sending for that function. You will need to study the MIDI Implementation Charts for both devices. If either device does not support this as shown (or really - not shown) on its MIDI Implementation Chart, then you will not be able to do it.
