Bought keyboard to learn how to play. Owner had no sound system or head phones. My bad said it worked fine trusted him. Brought it home plugged in headset missing keys 4 E flats 2 A 3 A flats. Finally got up enough courage to take it apart after watching tube videos. Cleaned circuit board for all keys and inside rubber contacts with alcohol recomended put it back together. Still the same. Saw where someone recomended conductivity test on ribbon. Testing each small wire from end to end? 88 of them?

Sorry to hear that.
Is it a MODX8? Not MOFX8 typo eh!

They are expensive.
Good luck with repair.

There are a couple of techo dudes here who can guide you through with correct method of fix.

Unfortunately it sounds like one of the key control boards is gone (possibly cracked) and needs replacing; and it's *very* finicky to try and do yourself. Even more unfortunately, as they stopped manufacturing in 2017 or so, and they only guarantee keeping parts for about 6 years after retirement, it could be difficult to find.

The good news: usually that means only local control is affected; if you purchase another 88 key controller, and midi it out into your MOXF, you should be able to use it that way. The bad news: 88 weighted keys with 5 pin midi out are now hard to come by (they've all been replaced by midi USB), but if you can find a used (test it first!) P120, P140, P155, P255, P515, or an ancient P70, you can midi out of the portable piano and midi into your MOXF.

Or if you don't even need weighted, semi weighted will do, you could get an Alesis/MAudio Q88/Keytation 88. (but you'll need a separate power supply, they don't include them)

Good luck,

Mark

What you are saying is for me to midi in the midi input from a 88 key controller which is not another key board. I'll look for an 88 key controller I do have a 5 pin midi cable. I am also assuming that midi out on my moxf 8 is also messed up right. Thanks

no, you'd be using the keys of your midi controller, but at least the sounds of the MOXF; the key control boards (usually 2 for 61 key and 3 of them for 88 key) when it's not working properly, you get the same repeating notes not working across multiple octaves. I mean, take it to a repair shop and see if they can repair it (parts might still be possible) but at least in the meantime, if you midi into the moxf, you should be able to hear it.

The key control boards have nothing to do with midi, so yes it's quite likely midi into your moxf will work.

If you want to use an 88 key controller or any controller that is only midi USB, you can get a MIDI host ( on Amazon 1 and 2 MIDI output ). I have an old M-Audio keyboard with a USB connection only and the MIDI host (2 output in my case ) works great. I run my Volca FM2 and Volca Bass with it. Hope this helps.

That is also a great option. I'm one of those that want to know what makes the watch tick. Puzzles me why just f sharp and an couple As and a D out. Cleaned spotless no marks on tracks tested ribbons on keyboard part all good even the one that hooks to other printed circuits. No burn marks,no rust on contacts. Something separates notes. Not sure.

Volt/Ohmmeter/Milliameter.

You'd have to take precautions working with live circuits to do a proper trace. One slip and you're breathing smoke.

Watch a few youtubes about tracing live circuits to get a feel for it before you totally fuck things up :D

This is how we learn. :D :D :D
