I'm completely new to this but trying to get a little advice.

I have a Yamaha DGX-205 which has a USB-MIDI out. What I want to do is connect my keyboard to my PC and use that to create and manage different patches/voices. Then I would output the sound to an amp. Basically a pass through that transforms the sound. Is this even possible, or would the delay make it unfeasible? Can anyone recommend some software that would accomplish this?

I'm unclear on exactly what you wish to do.

Do you wish to use the Yamaha as a controller for a VSTi Virtual Instrument?

Latency may or may not be a problem for this setup depending on how fast your PC is and how much crap you have loaded on there and how well written the MIDI USB and soundcard drivers are.

Start your google searching on "VSTi software" and "MIDI Latency" to give you a better idea of how to begin this task and troubleshoot it properly.
