Are you talking about sampling?

Either a keyboard has that capability or it does not.

Consult your manual.

Clarify what you are looking for.

Do you want to sample the sound of a racecar???

Do you want to record an entire MP3 on your Yamaha????

Do you want to record a MIDI sequence????

If you aren't specific we can't help you

The SX 900 ( and even E series ) can record.

Have you worked through the Recording section from page 67 ?

It records MIDI.

The manual will say if you can export the MIDI as a WAV/MP3.

If it does not record as a WAV/MP3 then that is yet another severe limitation of the SX.

Korg’s PA series record both MIDI and in audio formats.

I have a sound that i want to record and change the format to what the sx900 will accept as another voice.
Some keyboards do that but of course this one has no microphone.
So i will get a mic or use an app on the tablet.
what kind of file is needed for yamaha?

I don't think you can create new voices on the PSR-SX900 itself.

Instead, I believe you would need to use the Yamaha Expansion Manager (or "YEM" for short) to create the new voice on your computer, create your own expansion pack with the new voice, and install the expansion pack on your keyboard.

Note, I'm not knowledgeable about that process, because I don't have any models that can load expansion packs, so I'm afraid I can't offer you any guidance related to YEM.

Ah, your requirements are a little clearer now.

You are seeking Sampling functionality in your SX, which is not directly possible but I believe that Michael has given you the correct solution.

I do not know if the features of YEM will enable you to assign the Sample as a voice across the keybed or just to a Pad, you will need to do your research on this.

Can I ask that you keep this thread going with what solution you find works?

Good luck.

I have a sound that i want to record and change the format to what the sx900 will accept as another voice.

I fully understand what you want. SX900 will accept .vce voices. To get that you will need to have a program or a machine that will record your sound with wave files which must not be confused with the .wav that are songs produced by keyboards. These wave files are sampled by fairly expensive equipment. A company like TTT (total transformationTechnology - Reg Rawings) can do this but will probably charge you a big fee. To put voices into the YEM you need to create a ppf file, again very easy once you have your voice in an acceptable form. The general Yamaha keyboards are not able to create new voices. Hope this helps. Regards, Den.
