Roland boutique D-05 & Axiom 61

I've just bought a Roland boutique D-05 synth and want to play it via midi through my M-Audio Axoim 61. But no matter how I play with the midi settings on both I cannot make the Axoim play the Roland through the midi connections.
Can it be done? or will i need to get a a plain midi keyboard?
I'm not the best when it comes to using midi so any help will be gratefull appreciated...

Thanks for your reply. I finally got the answer a few days ago.
The Axiom was not set to send midi out via midi connection, only through USB.
So after trolling through the internet I eventually discovered how to switch the Axiom over 2 midi out, via pushing 2 buttons simultaneously....very simple but took me 18 months to find out!!!.
Working fine now with the roland boutique.
