Roland RD-300GX Foot Switch For Dual Function?

I would really like to be able to activate the "dual' function with a foot switch, but have not been able to see how it can be done with the control foot switch input. Is it possible to use a MIDI pedal? I'm considering building some 9v solenoid switch thingy that I can velcro to the surface of the keyboard, but I'd like to avoid the frankenboard look if possible.
