I'm new here and wanted to give it a shot with some possible feedback on the matter. I've been playing for about 15 yrs off and on and have owned only three or four board models ranging from the ypg-235 to the dgx-660-670 also a roland keyboard from the 90s and lately after getting the dgx670 earlier this year was blown away by the sounds and quality of the board.
So to skip to the actual question I have went into the style creator and recorded an instrumental track on all the channels including rhythm 1 that loops when all instruments are turned on.
My question is how could I transfer those looped instruments from the style creator i made to the 16 multi-track channels so that i can record the actual song using what i created in style creator?
Also why is it that when i open the 16 track recorder getting ready to record and have the accompaniment on as soon as i play the far left notes the instruments i recorded from the style creator start playing all at once and it doesn't sound right like it does when i play it back in the style creator? Like they are playing back in a different key or something?

Any advice or ways/techniques i could use to sort this out so i don't have to re-record those tracks i recorded in the style creator in the 16 multitrack recorder?
Great thanks to any one who may know!

Hi! So, I haven’t done a lot of creating Yamaha styles and the other things you mentioned. But, I do recall that you have to record the style in the key of C. If you didn’t do that, then you may have to edit each track or recreate them.
Also, if you don’t want a recorded track to start playback at beat 1, you have to record it that way. Meaning start recording, but don’t start playing until the point in the measure that you want the instrument to be heard. Again, editing the style track or recreating it is possible.
I hope you found this helpful. 🙂

Save the style you created on a USB drive.
Load the style from the USB drive.
Start playing using the style.
Does it work correctly?
Stop the style.
Start recording using 16 track recorder.
Start the style.
Does it work correctly?

can you successfully record using any other style, including built-in styles or downloaded styles?

I love the DGX 670, but creating styles and songs can be funky. I haven't perfected my finger drumming well enough to do a lot of it. However, with the styles I have created... To make a song, I just load the style I want to use, then I just go straight to the record button in the top left. It will be armed and flashing but won't start recording until you hit a key or start the style. Make sure you have it set so that you get an intro if you made one. I'd actually recommend making at least a clock track intro. So, have the intro armed and ready to go along with the section of n of the style you want to use first. It will play the intro first and then go to that style that is armed. Then when you're done, just press either record or play again (I forget which without the board in front of me) and it will stop recoding. Then rewind it to make sure it's resound - press and hold. The first thing I'd do is save it. Press select and choose either the internal user section or better yet a USB section, press save and then name it. And press enter. Then click on it to open it again to make sure you've saved it. Then after all that, you should be able to click on the 16-track menu and see which tracks are playing. It'll probably be at least the 10(drum) and 11(bass) tracks, plus perhaps 9 (percussion) and (at least one of the) 1 to 3 tracks for the main, layer, and left. In other words, DON'T OVERTHINK IT. JUST CHOOSE AND CORRECTLY ARM YOUR STYLES AND GO STRAIGHT TO RECORD AT THE TOP LEFT. I think it flashes orange when armed and green when recording, plus another flashing light. Just MAKE SURE to save it. Don't worry about overwriting another song, because it will let you rename it, and then just back click, change the name and press save and it will save it as a different file - even if it looks like you're on top of an old one. It won't erase it if you rename it. But I'd back everything up on USB to be safe. Also, there's this guy in YouTube who does some killer tutorials on using the DGX 670. His name is Phill C, so just search Phill C and DGX 670 and you should get s hunch of hits for his tutorials. He covers almost everything and even responds to questions. He's been very helpful to me. I even left him a thank you tip because he was so helpful. Yamaha should pay him. 😅 Hope this helps. Now... I've got a question. I'm pretty sure I'm correct on this... There isn't any way to program drums in the style creator without actually playing them, is there? I'm a crummy finger drummer and the only issue I have is that it seems like you can't import a MIDI file of sequenced drums to use in the Style Creator. Just wondering. Good luck. It's an amazing board for the price.

I wish people would stop saying that you have to record in C, you absolutely *do not* (as someone who has created many, many styles). The *default* is in CM7, but usually I'll program the style in the original song key to preserve the original inversions

The DGX670/PSRsx600 (same OS and sound library) however, does not have any of the midi event editing features of the other Yamaha arrangers.

You don't 'transfer' the style into 16 midi tracks; you play back your style *while* recording a midi (you could always record just the styles first and then record tracks 1 -8 one at a time)

Thanks from another commenter for explicitly stating that one can not import MIDI events in the Style Creator. I was almost certain that was the case, and Google AI confirmed it (for whatever that's worth), but had some uncertainties about that. The only kind of walk around I found to this is to use one of the drum kits as a main instrument and then importing the correctly mapped midi notes into the SONG Creator for an entire piece of music. Ditto for bass and any other "Styles". Does this seem to you like the only viable loophole of sorts?

You have *very* limited midi events other than notes and program changes; I think only 14 out of the 128 possible

Unfortunately on the DGX670/PSRsx600, other than using Midi to Style (Yamaha ) or Midi2Style (Jørgen Sørensen)
then the only way is the play the drums during style creation; there is step recording on the more advanced models but not on those 2.

Please note that it is also very difficult to get through your wall of text without paragraph breaks; just an FYI

Thanks man for your help on the matter , lol my deal is i laid down a real dope style during the summer using only the style creater tool using all the channels (rhythm1, bass, chorus1, phase1,2 etc.) and now all i want to do is figure a way to record it without any pitch change and convert it to an audio file or midi or like a WAV file so i can import it to logic Pro or just to my mp3 player.

Most style files are .sty or sty2 so whether or not the percussion/drum tracks would be included in the midi the same way they are in the .sty is uncertain. But you might have to convert the midi into a .sty somehow or include other instrument parts while creating the midi not sure??

Word man phil c is where its at at least for a good majority of technical features and workarounds ! I had been looking at phils tutorials off and on throughout most of the summer after i managed to get the dg670 back in mid march what a great evening that was....
