I understand that Yamaha can't use the real names of the songs in the MDB for the Yamaha DGX-660. Has anyone cracked the code? I've started a list and would be thrilled if anyone could help me fill in the blanks. I would be happy to be corrected too.

Welcome

Just to rub it in.

My Korg PA had cryptic Song names.

Korg UK issued an updated patch that corrected them and even included the Artist.

One smug Korg user here.

Apologies could not resist the dig at Yamaha.

Actually it's a licensing issue. If Korg is listing artists's names they must be on the payroll.

Hi @ttsxii
Back when I joined this forum in 2015 my first question related to MDB code cracking for my Yamaha. PSR S650
@goldi5210 was kind enough to post me a .zip file with all 700 cryptics revealed.
You can see it if you get into my profile and scroll back through my threads to 2015. Some song titles will be the same as your DGX-660 but some not.
Maybe Goldi has a .zip link for you?

Anyway Biggles is bias about Korg V Yamaha. He rubs it in anytime he feels there is an opportunity . .lol.

Biggles ain't the only one with a bone to pick about Yamaha. Even my Yamaha Mixer has a USB interface I can't use because it uses non standard drivers.

That kind of arrogance should not be rewarded in the marketplace

Yamaha did release unencrypted song database names-- but not for the DGX models, it was for the PSR-S and Tyros models. I think many of the unencrypted names for the PSR-E and DGX models came from comparing their databases with those of the PSR-S and Tyros models, especially taking note of the tempos and styles used to help match them up (since the encrypted names didn't always coincide exactly).

I did ask the Korg Sales Manager who gave me one to one tuition whist he was visiting my local Music Store about the cryptic naming and he said that it was more to do with import duty.

Had the Styles/Songs had the correct name then Korg would have to pay import duty on each song.

It is fun trying to decipher the cryptic names but difficult if we cannot hear them.

Korg UK staff are brilliant, they have just produced a Songbook of about 150 songs, each one has its proper name, and Registrations specific to the song with Fx, Eq etc. Nearly fell off my keyboard stool when I was trying on of them, the Korg guy who did the intro to Looney Tunes got it spot on, very funny.

OK so I am rabbeting on about Korg again but given the market dominance Yamaha should be providing a level of service considerably better than they are.

Thank you very much. I did try looking for this file but I guess if you're not the poster these things are pretty hard to find. Thank you.
