Hi,

I'm a 78 year old dinosaur novice to keyboards; I bought my first keyboard which arrived the Monday after Christmas it's an E383. I quickly decided to upgrade and have had an SX920 for a very short time so I'm finding my way around or trying to.

I'm puzzled why both keyboards vary so much in sound output with voices selected; with the main volume control set at full some of the voice volumes are very weak but then suddenly as I select another voice it lifts the roof really making me jump.

I'm sure this must be down to my ignorance and lack of experience; I can spend a great deal of time trying to sort it myself but often it's best to ask.

My new keyboard corner in the front room set up today. I like both keyboards. I have a studio to the bungalow rear where I started to learn violin four years ago but in winter it takes a lot of heating; I can record playing my violins using a Tascam Pocket studio also I'm a member of two stringed instrument forums. No one's ever too old to learn new things?

Any help will be very much appreciated.

Kind regards, Col. (Colin)

Hi Col,

main volume knob set at full? Why? It is better to set it at half (around 12 o"clock).
Do you use Mixer? It is main tool for leveling voices.

Hi,

Many thanks for your reply and useful suggestion @Lacko. No I don't use mixer because at the moment I don't know how to but thanks to your tip I'll now look at how to use mixers; I'm sure there will be many YouTube videos to help me.

It's suggestions like yours @Lacko I learn so much from; being pointed in the right direction is all I need but as a total novice I've a blank sheet to work from.

Kind regards, Col.

Hi,

I finally got around to the SX920 mixer controls this morning. WOW; your information is bang on @Lacko;

Mixer controls_721.JPG

Top right displays "Master" I just set Output at 119 as a test and huge sound filled the room leaving me scabbling to reach the volume control knob. The difference is truly amazing; I now need to play around more on a suck it and see basis.

Thanks so much @Lacko I misunderstood the main volume control thinking it was like a radio control; yes I had the main volume at max and many of the voices were whispers; not any longer though I'm now enlightened. As with most things; easy when you know how.

My E383 now needs sorting out but if it has a mixer I can't see the button so I need to play around with it.

Kind regards, Col.

Hi Col.
Mixer is very powerful tool. When I wrote about it, I meant more the Panel tab than Master EQ tab. In Panel tab you can set sliders for R1, R2 and R3 (and L) individually for each voice according to your liking. And store these settings for each song into registrations.

Hi,

Thanks once again @Lacko, you've kindly taught me something else; eventually I'll succeed but only after making many mistakes; the volume is now OK; next I need to work on the mixer and other controls of which there are many. The keyboard is now opening up to me and shaking hands at last.

You've sorted out the volume for me which was my original question and I'm grateful of your help so now I have a further bonus with your latest useful information.

I'll update later.

Kind regards, Col.
