This my very first attempt at this. Please bear with me.
I wrote this tune today and decided to show it off . . Albiet a little!
My camera cuts out after 1 minute so unfortunately you just get a snippet. Anyway just for starters . What do you think? Has this tune got potential?
There are many flaws in it I know which I can fix.
FYI. I am using a Yamaha acmpt. I wrote the melody in the key of G and use mainly minor chords Gm Am Cm as well as Fmaj and Bb
Hope you enjoy. . Please be critical.

Nothing basically wrong with it Ray. Could easily be used as a score in a romantic drama.

Now let's talk about that gut :D Time to cut back on the Foster's mate :D

Hi, Ray. Well done.
But two things caught my attention: the first, what does this Tragic mean? The second is that you made the movie backlit, which put the Keyboard in a penumbra.

The camera must have been set on "wide angle" hehehe.
Actually my gut is just on the verge of breaking the BMI barrier. So you are right. Need to cut back!
On the other hand, it could be just bad posture.
Anyway thanks for the kind words on the tune:)

Thanks Oriane.
When I started putting it together it reminded me of some kind of tragedy. I did not want to call it that because the BeeGees beat me to it.
I just called it "Tragic As . . !" To be a little different.
As for the lighting . . I will learn from this. Thanks.

Nice.

A couple technical notes. First, close the curtain on the sliding door in the background. If the curtain isn't thick, you may wish to get a thick curtain. The brightest part of the picture shouldn't be the door.

How did you record the sound? To me it sounded like you could hear the fingers striking the keys, which probably isn't what you're going for. If you're using the mike on the camera, either pull back so that you're not so close to the keyboard, or (better) do a direct feed from the keyboard to the camera, skipping the microphone completely.

But more importantly, a nice snippet.

Hi Fred and others.
My focus was just to show off my new tune. I tried it on soundcloud but got upload errors.
So I just put my small Cannon on the desk top next to the keyboard and pressed start. The end result was just a rubbish recording without any pre thought. My intention was just to show off my tune.
Nevertheless I want to expand this further. I have dozens of other tunes which I am proud of too.
Oriane also gave me some good advice and Brian's encouragement too makes me want to record more.
I plan to continue with this new project and thanks to this forum I can be sure to get continued advice and support. Much appreciated.

Ray >>> If you're having trouble with soundcloud uploads make certain you are using a supported format.

I believe Soundcloud allows you to upload as either MP3, or OGG, or WAV or TIFF audio files.

You cannot upload video files to Soundcloud.

I know you are busy helping out everyones techo probs. But can I stretch the friendship a little?
How do I upload my tunes to soundcloud?
Talk me though the process . . please:)

Do I plug in a usb cable from the kb to my computer? Do I need a special program make it all work?

I tried recording through my phone microphone and it works ok and I can playback and all is good. But how do I get it to the public? I get a message " upload failed"

Thanks

Seriously Ray.

With the Yamaha PSR keyboards you need a proper cable to go from the keyboard's Headphone Jack to the computer's Line In Jack.

or

https://www.amazon.com/Hosa-CMS-110-Stereo-Interconnect-Cable/dp/B000068O36

Then all you have to do is record it to a WAV file with a program like Soundrec.

https://www.google.ca/search?num=10...f&site=&source=hp&q=soundrecorder&oq=soundrec

Then all you have to do is convert it to an MP3 with software like Soundconverter.

https://www.google.ca/search?num=100&newwindow=1&safe=off&q=soundconverter+windows&oq=soundconv

That's all there is to it.

Bob's yer uncle...

Hi Ray,

I know what you mean about videos , but I have recently moved from saving my music just as music, to creating a small slide show/ video which you can easily do online with just one image, thats if you have a youtube account to post it. Not for everyone but the way things are going with free streaming sites it seems a more permenate place to store stuff at the moment.

Thanks Brian for the tip.
I would like to use youtube or soundcloud to store my music (and show it off) but I need to figure out the best way to do it.
I am considering Gary's method directly by cable to my pc to a sound converter for uploading to soundcloud.
Can I upload to youtube from the sound converter?

Hey Ray,

I really enjoyed that, very nice melody over the backing, lots of atmosphere and mystique in the melody. Certain has potential as a song, put a mid section in there to break things up and I think that'll be a nice little tune. Pretty good effort on the video, I'm a noob myself at making videos, just got a webcam the other day ;)

Hey thanks KeysDude. That is very kind of you. That actually was a weak effort on my part. I just rushed everything and also got my timing wrong. I play it now 6 8 time and sounds heaps better. Also I have a mid section in there as well. One day I will post it again in its entireity.
Cheers

BTW Ray, I didn't mention it earlier for fear of making your head explode, but a better way to record is as a MIDI file in a computerized DAW program.

This not only allows you to do multitrack recording with ease in multiple sessions but also allows you to edit stray notes and accidentals out of your final product.

The only additional hardware required is a decent length USB AB Printer Cable assuming your keyboard has a USB interface or a USB / MIDI adapter if all it has are MIDI ports.

Aside from that, load up your favorite freeware DAW and watch a few how to tutorials on youtube on how to record a song with your particular software and voila!!! You become a studio god!

In the meantime, however, for simple realtime on the fly recording the first method I mentioned is still the simplest.

Gary ;)
