I have a Pa4x 76 with PAAS speaker.

Looking to upgrade to Pa5X. I am a hobby player.

Anyone got any views?

I have the Pa5x 61 with the Paas Mk2 speaker and I am delighted with it. I bought it in June this year after many years of playing Yamaha and deciding that the Genos 2 price was excessive.

For sheer build quality, sound and playing heaven.... Just do it!
This Pa5x is just the most awesome Arranger on the planet.

Yes, but why?

The 4X 76 is a great keyboard with plenty of Bonusware available for free.

A 5X is still awaiting updates to restore features that exist in the 4X Next OS, it is an amazing keyboard though and I love the feel of the semi weighted keybed.

My local store would be selling a used 4X 76 for about £2200 and knowing them they would probably offer about £1500 as a trade in price with a new Pa5X 76 key about £3000.

Good thinking there.

I have to say that if I was looking for a Second keyboard (I'm not) my choice would also be the Pa4x or possibly an original Genos.

That is a very good question, I only play for my amusement.

I normally deal with your local store.

I have had the 4X for 5 years, so more about selling while it is working well.

Think I will do more research, concerned about LEDs and whether PAAS Mk1 is fully compatible.

Hi Keith.

Pa5X is a great keyboard, and believe me, your PAAS is fully compatible and will sound just as good at Pa5X!
As a hobby player at home, the only thing you probably would notice, is if there is faulty LEDs. It's a nown fault, and Korg will fix it under the warranty if needed.
The one I bough had no such issues at all, all the button lamps is OK.
Regarding the new OS, personally I like the new version and interface far better than the old. 👍

The missing feature from Pa4 that would affect a homeplayer is maybe the midi to style converter. I never used it the short time I had Pa4, so for me that was not any issue at all.

A friend of mine "hijacked" my Pa5X-76, and use it at gigs regulary as well as at home. He also have Genos.
Not any faults or issues, he is very happy with it. :)

And I'm going to buy a new one as soon as we're settled down in our new appartement. Maybe the Musikant version, but that's not important. My Genos 2 miss it's compagnion and the rack looks empty without it.

We only live once..... :D

I just ordered a Pa5x and a Paas MK2. The dealer called to tell me that the Pa5x is currently out of stock and will be available in 30 days, I will wait for it. I got the Paas MK2 today. I have. Pax4 and Paas that I plan to keep. I also have a Yamaha Tyros 5 that I hope to sell.

The PA5X has a totally different OS and user interface. It has many new features. It is a physically beautiful piece of hardware and sound great. It takes some time to get to know it. Is it worth it to make the jump from the 4? I really dont know, if you have the money to spend I guess it is.

Keyboard wise, I have played mostly TOTL Yamaha's in the past.

Moving to my Pa5x was a big step for me. The OS is very different and quite confusing at first glance, particularly the file system. But like most things in life, once you've spent some time with it, it all starts to fall into place.

Members advice here and on other forums has been instrumental in this, and I would highly recommend the excellent Tutorials for the Pa5x on YouTube by Qui Robinez.

Adam’s an ex Korg UK staffer.

He and Luke produced the legendary Korg Webinar series and he has started producing Tutorials under the banner of the Company where he now heads up the music department.

His tutorials are worth watching.

I had a one to one session with Adam when I got my first Korg Pa arranger, learned a lot from him.

A good place to start to learn the basics about a Pa5X is with their own Video Manual series.

Steve McAnally is the guy who produces these, he has done all those for the Pa series and many other Korg keyboards including the Nautilus.

If you are a Korg Fanperson then bookmarking and subscribing their Youtube Channel can be handy.

Yes, these are good too. I have to slow them down a bit so I absorb what he's saying and then putting it into practice.
