Yamaha keyboard "klunk" noise when keys are released

For a used Yamaha SY77, when any of the keys are released after they're played, there is a noticeable klunk noise.
Is this noise normal for this particular Yamaha synthesizer? Can this noise be eliminated? It is unbearable.

Possibly it is the damper pads that are worn.

I think Biggles had it right. The return dampers have been compacted over time. You either need to replace the damper felt or have someone do it for you. The alternative is to sell it and get something different. I’d ignore some of the comments. There are self-avowed comedians on here who laugh at their own jokes rather than help.
