Welcome.

The E & EW ranges are more Beginner and Home Player oriented hence have limited functionality.

I doubt if there is a sub £3000 keyboard that will do as you seek, even then I am unsure if the Genos will do it but the Korg Pa4X could as it includes a Chord Sequencer.

The SX700 does have assignable features in the foot pedal so you may like to check this out.

You could use your EW to record the backing and then play over it.

You'll have to step up to an "arranger workstation." In the current Yamaha range, the PSR-SX600 would be the least expensive model with a flexible MIDI implementation. You might even be able to find a new old stock PSR-S670 for even less. Stepping up to the SX720 or SX920 would get you a larger screen and some nice additional features if you ever want to explore the keyboard side, backing vocals, etc.

If you're open to trying another brand, you could also consider Korg (Pa700 or better) or Roland E-A7 which will change chords with input from an accordion. My $.02.

If there are budget restraints, then any second hand psr S series keyboard are equipped to change chords. You can pick these up for much less than $1000.
Just using it as a backing for the accordion, I think tyros models or the psr SX models would be over kill.

Hmmm... I'm sure that very old PSR 740 can send and receive SYSEXs for changing chords, Mains, Fills and more and more... :)

You don’t happen to know if a Tyros 2 keyboard will do
The Tyros2 has 10 preset MIDI templates, 2 of which are for use with a MIDI accordion. However, if I'm reading it correctly, it looks like the bass buttons on the accordion control the Tyros but not the other way around.

Thank you for your enquiry.
For your reference, your case number is 00408613.
Q: Hi would you be able to tell me if a Yamaha Tyros 2 is capable of chord and key detection.

A: Yes the Tyros2 has this feature it is called 'Chord Detect' and is part of the MIDI settings of this keyboard.

I hope this helps and thank you for contacting Yamaha Music Europe GmbH

Not sure what you mean by that. If it's still .produced, just order it, or the one replacing it.
The Tyros2 he/she was hoping to buy would have been a used item. The current replacement, Genos2, would be considerably more expensive and even later Tyros models would possibly be twice the price of a Tyros2. Being a fellow-Scot, I can understand the pain in losing out on a bargain.

Got a Roland RA 50 changing the chords and using the Yamaha keyboard beats it’s actually not bad although you don’t get the accompaniment of the keyboard just the drums and beats with the Roland changing the chords

Not sure which Yamaha keyboard you're using. But if you tweak the MIDI IN settings (specifically the channels for chord detect) and change the chord recognition mode to "Fingered" or "AI Fingered", you should be able to control the Yamaha's chordal accompaniment with incoming note messages from your Roland RA-50.

You might have to tell the Yamaha to ignore everything except note messages, so that the RA-50 doesn't inadvertently start and stop the accompaniment with SysEx, etc.

I played my Tyros for years with output from a Roland BK-7m module, because I much prefer the Roland's simplified chord fingering. I understand how Yamaha's AI Fingered works, but Roland's implementation (making the bass inversion an independent setting) is better. Most songs/chords can be played with fewer keys pressed, and you can still easily play slash chords when you need to. My $.02.

Its a Yamaha PSR 310. Contacted Yamaha and they said it doesn’t have chord detection

Sorry but nobody in their right mind would buy a Tyros 2 unless it is for a handful of loose change.

The Tyros 3 was released in 2008 and the Tyros 2 had a 3 year production run prior.

I think the issue is that the lower end models are typically (always?) only equipped to change chords based on what is being played from their own keys, and cannot change chords via MIDI. Since two hands are not enough to play the accordion and the keyboard simultaneously, the solution for an accordion player is to find an arranger that can change chords, not based on what is being played on the keyboard's own keys, but rather, what is being played on the MIDI-equipped accordion, which is what's leading to the suggestions of higher end models.

I know the OP seems to be specifically looking for a Yamaha sound source here, but maybe a used Roland BK-7M module would be worth considering.
