A couple of things to try:-

1- Reset keyboard, hold far right keybed key and power up

2 - Hold the Memory button and power up

You could try running the self-test program to see if it finds a ROM error. The instructions for running the self-test program are given in the Service Manual. The Elektrotanya site doesn't have the Service Manual for the PSR-E253, but the Service Manual for the PSR-E233 is available, so hopefully that will be close enough for the self-test.
