I don’t find any info in the manual for my PSR E453 about how to use the high and low pass filters. Any suggestions? I can hardly hear any difference when applying them.
Thanks in advance
Linda
It is not surprizing that you do not notice much difference at home.
From a home or small venue keyboard player the use of either filter can be related to not only the chosen instrument sounds but the room acoustics.
If the room does not have any soft furnishing then applying a high filter can improve the tonal quality of the sounds since the high pass will reduce the signal strength of the higher frequencies that resonate around the room.
Conversely if there is too much bass resonance within the room then the low filter will cut the lower frequencies which will result in a better Eq of the sound.
Recording using an external device will use of these filters is a different matter.
I understand the theory from microphones, but are you saying these two filters are only for recording live performance with an external mic as this would not be a problem with the keyboard connected to a recording device? If so when do I need the low pass and when do I need the high pass? Strange Yamaha does not explain this at all.
Thanks
Linda
They are there so that you can tune the keyboard output sound to match the room acoustics.
A Sound Engineer would use the equivalent of them on their recording equipment to take out annoying high and low frequecies that are affecting their recording quality.
