he had been suffering from a lung disease for a few weeks that got progressively worse.

Sadly never saw him live.

He was one of the founders of the Moody Blues, but he left before they formulated their signature sound. He was best known-- to me, at least-- for his work with Paul McCartney and Wings. I was thinking he also worked on one of Pete Townshend's albums, but it turns out that was Ronnie Lane-- although apparently he did perform with Pete Townshend and other greats...
