Yamaha Tyros 1 Buttons / switches going bumb

Hi, I read a question someone asking if it is good to buy a Tyros 1. I bought the Tyros 1 shortly after it came out (which I still have but now want to replace with the new Genos). I have been happy with my old Tyros but want to pose a friendly warning, some of the switches in my Tyros went dumb and dead. I had five switches replaced by bigger internal switch components that solved the problem, but now switches that I haven't replaced are also going dumb. It is quite frustrating because if you want to change say a sound whilst playing, initially you have to press the button hard to do the change, but as the problem gets worse, pressing the button does nothing.

So I would say, if you consider buying an old Tyros, check the buttons. I am hoping that Yamaha made some changes by using more reliable switches in the later models. I am actually very concerned if I might have the same experience if I buy the the new Genos. If anybody knows more on this topic, could you please publish something.

Welcome to the forums, and thank you for sharing that warning. Unfortunately, buttons and switches do wear out over time, and the Tyros1 is the oldest of the Tyros line, so it's going to be the riskiest model to buy used.

If any keyboard receives heavy use it will wear out faster. Arranger models get extra use of certain switches and those are the most likely to wear out. I've gigged with all of my Yamaha keyboards and never had any switch problems (but they are not arrannger keyboards).
