I want to learn to play synth, and I want to create sounds from scratch.

I wonder, what's the best keyboard out there for learning the basics? LFOs, oscillators, cutoff etc. :)

I'd like a clean interface with actual controls and knobs for everything, no menus. Polyphonic. My budget is $1,5K...

    Waldorf Blofeld or Korg Radias.

Those two come to mind, but those are actual synths - so if you're looking
for pianos, epianos, brasses, guitars... and such - you won't find much of those in here

    Two great synths suggestions.

Can you play a piano style keyboard already? Playing/controlling synth sounds, live isn't the same as creating sounds from scratch (apologies if you know that already).

Are you going to "twiddle and listen" and just figure it out by yourself or have you a book to learn from or a friend who can teach you? It's a long journey with lots of jargon.

    Hi Simon,
Roland have a couple of synths that are easy to use, sound great and don't cost the earth. The first is the new Roland GAIA SH01 super cool synth under £500.
or the Roland SH201. Check them both out on YouTube.

Also Korg Microkorg. Small unit big sound.

    Hope this was helpfull.
