I just bought the latest reincarnation of Tracktion (version 4). The company and product are being revived by the founder. I have tried DAWslike reaper and cubase with no success. I never liked the interface and reaper kept crashing on my 64 bit windows 8 laptop.
This tracktion has a whole new look, handles 3rd party plugins just fine (I've been downloading freebies all evening) and is really quite powerful and simple to setup. I downloaded the demo, which has all features of paid version without "save" capabilities and it emits a hiss sound every 15 seconds or so. In any event after trying it for 10 days I was sold on it. $59 was a decent price
I also tried acoustica mixcraft which was supposed to be entry level but that had all sorts of conflicts and connection problems.
