Another question on balanced vs unbalanced connections

I found an old Tascam DP-004 in storage. It has two unbalanced inputs. Can I use it with my Alesis Recital even though the L/Mono and R outputs are balanced? If so, does it matter whether I use TS or TRS cables? I keep reading things online about possibly overloading equipment.

You can use TS cables for a balanced to unbalanced connection without a problem.

As a follow up, the Tascam DP-004 turned out to be not a very good option for keyboard/solo piano. It seems better suited for shred guitar. I've got an audio interface on the way and will go the DAW route.
