I was visiting my father for his 92nd birthday last Thursday, and as we often do we played his Clavinova (purchased in 2020). As I was playing the D4 key would randomly respond with a loud, shrill tinny note. This has been going on for a few months, I remember my father reporting a "weird" sound coming from some of the keys. I don't see anything on this forum about this, but searches on the Internet do come up with multiple hits, including YouTube videos for how to disassemble a Clavinova to clean the contacts under the keys for either periodic non-response or this abnormally loud response. Is this common for Yamahas or Clavinovas? Are Yamaha's technicians usually able to solve the problem?

OK, posting this brought up threads such as "

Random very loud single note playing for no reason"

It appears that disassembly and cleaning contacts is the solution. Does anyone who has dealt with this used a Yamaha tech, because my father isn't going to be taking a project like this on and I live 3 hours away.

Im sure yamaha can fix easily. I fixed this myself on a reface yc and its perfect. Some ants had gotten in and had anorgy under the keybed. Essentially the parts are quite cheap and the labour would be about 2 hours. Yamaha build well but this involves some 30+ screws to be found and dealt with by hand. There is a rubber strip with two dots on the bottom (the contacts) and re attaching this (or a new) rubber strip is a bit of a jewellers job. But I managed with some persistance and I am not that dexterous.

Hello Greg, I'm sorry I missed your post last month concerning loud keys on your CVP. Yamaha are aware that this is a problem and there is a warranty to fix it. If you quote a Yamaha dealership the number DM1064, this should mean they are bound to send an engineer to replace pcb's and contacts. Good luck!

As Twildi said DMI0064 or DMI0113, depending on the model, are the respective Service Notes to rectify the issue and is a Warranty case if the unit’s purchasing date is less than 10 years

If purchased *new* in 2020, it should still be under warranty. Call the dealer quickly to send a warranty technician!
