Cheers mate,
But that's kinda my point, there ARE no keys guys in any bands I've seen.
If this endemic of a decline in keys in general?

Ah, sorry to hear that. I don't think there's a decline in keys generally, but it is true that rock band keys players seem to be a somewhat rare species. Maybe we're too busy hanging out at cosplay fairs as you have suggested.

I would still recommend doing a bit of headhunting if you are able. Networking is the way most good musicians get work in my part of the world. Perhaps you could start here?

Thanks, really appreciate the effort you put in for me, cheers.
Perhaps it's because I've been off the gigging scene for a few years, or maybe it's the area I live in, but finding like minded musicians has always been awkward, we call headhunting 'poaching' round here and it's very much 'not the done thing'
I've been asked to join a few bands after gigs but it's always been a clandestine affair, 'can't talk now but give me your number, I might have an opportunity for you", nudge nudge wink wink etc
I've known guys to get physically violent or intimidating at the prospect of someone from their band joining another band.

The odd thing is, I could figuratively stand outside my front door and throw a rock and hit a pro level guitarist in the head, we have shed loads around here.

Yeah totally get it. A lot of guys down here play in more than one band (as do I) so it's not seen as such a big deal, starting a new project doesn't necessarily mean quitting your other one. However your scene sounds a bit different and I'd hate to see you getting glassed for your troubles! Perhaps your networking might have to be confined to simply asking musos if they know other musos who might be interested.

Yep same here. Quality guitarists seem to be much easier to find generally for some reason.

All I can suggest then is keep persisting, whack heaps of ads up everywhere you can think of and you never know when that amazing keys player might respond. Speaking from experience it would be good to have a structured and solid audition process in place too so you can make sure you get the player you want. Hope it works out for you, and we'd love it if you checked in here with your progress!

I suppose the other issue is, to network I'd have to go out, which means going to pubs, and I prefer to drink alone wearing my wife's clothes.
Also I simply don't have the time to visit pubs to watch bands on the off chance I might meet a keyboard player, I work 60 hours a week and have a son nearly 1 year old lol.
