I don't know much about midi and was wondering; Can I take a piano piece and convert it to a midi file? Thanks.

A MIDI sequence is simply a recording of the keystrokes from a MIDI keyboard.

If you can play it you can record it.

And edit it note for note later in a DAW.

I think what eschmidt5565 means is: can I take sheet music and convert that into a MIDI-file. Which you can, theoretically, but by the time you've done that, you might as well have studied the piece and played it yourself and record it as MIDI :)

Much easier to get the software... and DIY...

(No affiliation with scan-score)

Not perfect, but that can always be edited in a midi file to suit your needs.
