Hi,

My boyfriend plays the piano (classical and jazz) and for his birthday me and his family would like to offer him a digital piano. Our budget is around $600-$1000 maximum. Which ones would you advise on this list? http://digital-piano.en.audiofanzine.com/ I'm completely lost!

And if I decide to buy a second-hand digital piano, is there anything I should look out for? Which site is the best? Ebay? Any other?

yes sir....I used to play on an fp8..(earlier model)...they do have good piano sounds but...the s90es is the most realistic accoustic piano sound I"ve heard yet other than a plugin maybe such as Ivory...plus the es90 has fully weighted keys which "accoustic" players look for....i know the fp seris roland has weighted keys too, but you cant beat the sample of the yamaha in an electronic board.....if you want, i could post a song of the 90 es (not me playing tho)...so you could hear it but you can prolly find some on the net too

wow, lots to think about....

thanks for all of the advice and info - I need to digest all of that!

Some other points to consider:

He has played an acoustic piano for many years already, and I've heard him mention that having the same feel on the digital piano is really important...

He will play only in the house, so it does not need to be easy to transport.

Does that change anything? Any other suggestions? :)

Everybody also makes "console" digital pianos such as this if you want the look to be more traditional

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Yamaha-YDP213-88Key-Digital-Piano-with-Bench?sku=707071

If your not gonna move it then this might be what your after....I'm sorry but I dont really know which ones are really good in those models (the picture i posted is so you can get an idea of what consoles look like)
your best bet is probably to go to a accoustic piano store as those kind of stores also carry digital consoles.....good luck!

Casio Privia PX320 is a real good value:

My dad is a retired keyboard player, used to teach music in school and piano lessons privately & owned his own studio - he just got a PX320 and loves it! :D

Good sounds, good action, even has built-in speakers.

I also have a studio but I would never let a casio in :D

Ha - actually, I meant a music studio/school, where teachers taught lessons on instruments & voice.

Yah, the "Casio" name does have a certain stigma to it but they've come a long way (baby)... :D

hey, nice to meet you... I'm new here...
I'd pick Roland RD-700GX from your list, but the price is more than $1000...

why don't you buy a workstation with 88-key, like a real piano, which could make songs on 1 keyboard... It's better than a digital piano... I suggest you to buy ALESIS FUSION 8HD 88-note Keyboard Workstation... It has a lot of sounds, and the piano sounds are good... Many people rate it good... the price is also cheap... the list price is $2,999... BUT THE NET PRICE IS ONLY $999.99...

NET price is so cheap on the Fusion 8HD 'cause it's about to be discontinued forever w/no likely replacement so buyer beware... ;)
