Question: By using a Yamaha UX16 USB MIDI Interface, would I be able to trigger another "older" sound module, in my case a Kurzweil MicroPiano via its midi in port? I’d like to be able to use another piano sound other than the ones within the P115 when out playing live gigs.

Short answer is "No" not directly.

Long answer is that there are workarounds,

1) Use a computer to handle the MIDI Routing.

2) Buy a dedicated USB MIDI Host to make the hookup.

Since the P115 possesses no genuine MIDI ports the USB port on the keyboard requires a computer to act as a HOST. If the Kurzweil has genuine MIDI ports then the UX16 would allow the Kurz to also talk to the computer.

Then all you'd have to do is run a MIDI Routing Software like MIDI Yoke and you'd be able to patch the piano to the module thru the computer.

The Kenton has been around for years, but I'm not certain whether or not it only ships with a UK power supply.

The Sipario is a newcomer to the market. Looks nice but VERY pricey...

BTW, if you're handy with a soldering iron here's a schematic and instructions for building a simple DIY USB MIDI Host using about $20 worth of parts.

And here's an even simpler design I found on Google.

I had the exact same question using the exact same hardware for the exact same purpose. Yamaha P115 with a Kurzweil Micro Piano. Darned thing is a bookend now.
