Is it possible to get separate items from a style in the PSR-SX900
I use an all-in-one style on the keyboard and would like to record the instruments singly on separate tracks in my DAW and then remix them.
Is that even possible?
Thanx.

nakeyer, thank you for the reply!

I am in Orlando, and I have a friend I work up in Staten Island NY who has that keyboard.
He is not very knowledgeable in the computer aspect of music creation but is an accomplished pianist and keyboardist. We write together, and he sends me tracks that he creates using the styles. Then, I have to try to separate the tracks in my DAW so I can create a song format that we can use to expand on his idea. I usually produce and arrange the tracks from the idea.
I need to know how I can explain it to him, since he has the keyboard, in a way he can understand so he can do it on his end before he sends the tracks to me.
Does that make sense?

If you do a "quick record," it will produce a multi-track MIDI file. Each of the various style parts will be recorded in its own track. I'm not sure what kind of file your friend is sending you, but it's actually quite easy to isolate any specific style track during style play, or in the recorded MIDI.

It is very important - what format of file he sends? By the way, there is rather old software by Yamaha that can very easy create the Style-Track from Yamaha PSR's Style (inseerting all parts - Mains, Fills, etc.. into any bars you need) and Chord-Track by inserting chords you need into bars you need. So - you will have created Chord-track and Style-track for the song. Next - with only one click you can create MIDI file with all MIDI tracks. The name of that software is XGWorks.
One of my friends made the Manual for that software in English https://midi-tutor.proboards.com/board/8/xgworks-tutorials

I will let him know.
He usually sends me individual .m4a files that he records onto his Tascam 8trk recorder.
I just thought it might be easier for him to send me multitrack MIDI files and I could replace the instruments in my DAW with my own.

Hello. I THOUGHT this was the question I've been trying to find an answer to, but the answers here aren't matching my results.

I'm a songwriter guitarist who is trying to create background parts (drums, bass, strings etc.) on the PSR SX900 using Styles. I'm not a keyboard player, except for left hand chords, so I can use Styles to create background parts behind my guitar and vocals.

The problem is, when I use Quick Record, all the Voices in the Style are stuck together in one place - either "Audio" or "Midi", depending on which I picked. The only advantage to using "Multi Recording" is that the left hand chords are saved separately. But the bass, drums, strings etc of the Style are still all together in "Midi". After recording, I want to see a separate drum part, separate bass part, separate strings, separate rhythm guitar, etc. I want to be able to move them to Logic Pro separately (and not in Midi format), so that for instance, I can start the rhythm guitar on the second verse, strings on the third, increase the drums in the chorus, etc. If they are all stuck together I can't do that. Is there some switch I'm missing that is keeping these parts from being separate after recording? Thanks for any help. Apologies, if I don't have a proper grasp of the PSR/keyboard language.

I think you're mistaken Tom. Look again at p84 of your Owners Manual. If you do a Quick Record and specify MIDI, that will produce a multi-track recording. When you play it back, your lead and each of the eight (8) accompaniment parts are recorded to separate tracks.

You can then use the built-in sequencer to review and edit the MIDI data. You can play your recorded song back, and mute any combination of the recorded tracks. You can even solo a track, and look at it in the score viewer. Or, save the MIDI file to USB and load it into Logic Pro. Hope this helps!

Thanks, Ted! I found it. I had been looking at the Mixer, when I needed to be looking at the Channel On/Off, which I found in Menu. The hint was on page 84 as you suggested, where it says Style Parts are Channels 9-16. (As I said, I don't speak PSR/keyboard too well). I just needed to figure out where to look at Channels.

I was pretty sure I had done this before and I knew I could do it on my 25+ year old PSR-5700, so I was pretty sure I had to be able to do it. So, thanks for giving me enough of a hint to find it. Much appreciated.
