Great - I have a gig tonight and middle C-G# is not responding. They are playing at a much, much lower volume than the other keys. Did a hard reset to no avail. Please, can anyone shed some light on this or have a quick fix? Thanks!

I think you're SOL on this for tonight.

Take it in for service and pick up a rental for tonight's gig ASAP.

Down to the circuit board, pulled over the blue, flexible cover to reveal the contacts. There is an double pronged integrated piece under each key that connects with this. Nothing to come loose. Am going to clean the contacts and see what happends.

This may well be beyond a simple mechanical fix. Those two prongs are the key actuators controlling velocity. The time from UP to DOWN is measured in milliseconds and fed to the CPU to generate the proper volume note in real time.

Somewhere in that switching circuit is probably an RC timing circuit measuring the delay. It's entirely possible that one of those components for that octave has gone out of spec, registering softer keypresses than actual.

If that's the case, then it's a job for a pro with a schematic and proper test gear.

Did Kurzweil get back to you and if so, what did they say?

I finally did get a senior manager at Kurzweil. They think the strip on the circuit board is bad. Needless to say, after I cleaned the contacts, I'm not getting any sound at all. Looks like I will order a new circuit board for that half of the keyboard.

Sorry to hear that. I wish you good luck in scoring an alternate set of keys for your gig tonight.

If the senior manager you talked to was Jean, then you have the right person. Jean's the best, no shit. The cleaning you tried typically cures most of these type of issues. Unfortunately it sounds like a repair is in order.
