A friend has an acoustic grand piano, it might be a Steinway. One of the notes sounds funny so I looked inside and there are little scraps of paper in there under the strings. Maybe dust is causing the odd tone. How to clean the paper and dust out? Do pianos have removable panels and doors to clean them out?

It’s not my piano, it’s a really nice piano, and I’m afraid to work on it.

Carefully removing dust with a (car)-vacuumcleaner with a soft brush attached and a new paintbrush. That's how my dear father cleaned the inside of piano's his whole life. Keep the lid of a piano closed when not in use!
Yes they have panels you can take of to get to the inside but it is depending what and how on the brand of the instrument.
