Hi, I'm new to Keyboard/midi controllers. I have a EMU Xboard 49 with no software..

How do I get this thing to play on my computer? I updated the firmware and downloaded the X board control, and even some sample sounds , but no sound...

I only have it hooked up by USB, i have no midi cables..

I was thinking the EMU Proteus X-2 would solve my problems, but I don't want to buy it and still nothing works..

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Have you installed MIDI drivers for the keyboard (called the Control Software on their download page)?

Once you've done that, what do you expect will make the sound on your computer? The driver only tells your computer how to recognize the keyboard; other software will have to do something with it to actually produce sound. I'm not familiar with Proteus, but it looks like it should, so I bet the problem is that your computer isn't recognizing your keyboard.
