Keyboard rear panel swap?

Hi all,

I don't know if anyone has tried this or whether it is worth pursuing, but I'm wondering about swapping out the rear panel on my old 90s Technics P30 for a lighter material. I think its a long panel made of chipboard veneer (you can see it in the beginning of this youtube repair vid).

I like this piano, but shaving some weight off it would be nice. I'm guessing some type of plastic might work, but it would have to shave a lot of weight off to be worth it I guess.

Advice?

I found some polycarbonate sheeting that might do the job.... won't be as strong, but I think the lower panel is more a cover than anything
