Compare the two, how do they sound?
How tweakable are the sounds?
Does the Miniak with 3 oscillators sound fatter than the R3's two osc?
Is the USB connectivity of the R3 going to make it the better choice if we can download patches to the R3 (can we do this)?

The Miniak has 8 part multitimbre, so does this make it sound better than the R3 with only 2 mutitimbre?

Any other thoughts?

I tested both recently at a local store, and the akai sounded much better, definitely a thicker sound. However, the USB connection for the R3 is a very awesome feature, especially for studio work. I guess that depends upon how stable the software is on both mac and pc. I currently own the microkorg, and the editor only really worked on pc. Plus, I was having serious difficulty in loading MS2000 patches onto the microkorg.

So for sound quality and performance purposes, I'm leaning towards the akai. But for organizing and creating sounds, I would go with the R3.
