Pulling the trigger on the PSR-S950

Been looking for 2 years for an upgrade. Just wanted some new rhythms and voices. I'm ready to skate on thin ice with the psr-s950. Don't have a music store near me that handles the 950 and only carries the E433. Looking around the internet I read feelings of no support from Yamaha regarding upgrade, system downloads, patches and fixes. Can you actually buy a 950, open the box, turn it on and play with crashing into the Indian Ocean? I don't want to spend the hard earned money to be disappointed. Any opinions?
