Hello! I want to ask here a question that has not yet received an answer anywhere else , including the manufacturer of the instrument. I bought a MIDI keyboard Samson Graphite , all happy except for a "small " problem : function keys that can be assigned controller Change Programs are unable to configure the program number which should switch sound module or virtual synthesizer . For some reason, there is no possibility to edit the " Datа " parameter and all the buttons on the sound module switch to 127. Support Specialist gave me advice to update the firmware keyboard, but the program for PC probably does not work. Presets perfectly copied from the keyboard and back, but when I trying to update firmware, in the Graphit Edotor window appears this message several times : "Search the boot sector " and then " Failure . Check the connection and try again" USBcable ,was connected all the time . If anyone has ideas , what I have to do ( except for the obvious - attributed back to the store ), I 'll be happy.

Possibilities :

1) Bad cable. Try a different one.

2) Antivirus software is blocking the updater. Disable antivirus.

3) Try a different operating system on a different computer. Maybe Windows XP.

4) Double check the updating procedure. Make sure you follow each step in sequence. Make sure you don't plug in the USB cable until you are supposed to.

If you give us more info I might be able to make other suggestions.

How old is the keyboard? What year was it released?

What OS and what service pack are you using? What antivirus and what version?

Thank you for advice! I will try to answer the points:
1. I tried using different cables
2. I didn't have antivirus few month
3I tried Windows XP on a laptop. Somehow Graphite software shut down when I downloaded the firmware, even if the keyboard is not connected. On the pictures you can see "Open file" button and "Update" button, and messages. I will return to this below.
4. I can not connect the USB cable after turning on the keyboard. The controller is powered by USB. And if I run the Graphit Editor before connect the keyboard, the editor will not see it. Simplest of procedure - I had to download the file and click "Update", I can not make a mistake.
New keyboard, I bought it a few weeks ago. I do not know what year it was released, but I think that recently. In the manual there copyright Samson Technologies of 2012.

I use the operating system Windows 7 64 bit service pack 1. At this moment I have not antivirus installed. On the pictures that I attached you can see what happens when you update the firmware. After clicking "Upload" , appear the message " Search Boot Sector " and then what I wrote in the first post . And the same thing happens if I do not connect the keyboard to the computer , but still run the Graphit Editor and make the upgrade process ( as it turns out you can do ) I learned just now evening , and I think that the problem in their program for upgrade. What's interesting on the site is laid out firmware older than the one that was loaded into the keyboard on sale. In general it is not clear what I have to do with this keyboard , everything works, but the inability to program the buttons does not allow its use.

Your problem may be the 64 bit OS. Did you check if there was a 32 Bit and a 64 Bit version when you downloaded it?

I just took a look over at the Samson website. They do have a Mac version. Any chance you could borrow a Mac and upgrade that way?

Their website does not say that the version of the operating system is important. I do not know, maybe at the time of manufacture Graphite editor does not have a 64-bit OS versions. Thank you again! I will try to find any of my friends have a computer with Mac OS.

I have the exact same problem with this keyboard. Fact is I clearly remember the update software working, and although I can't exactly remember where I got the file before, I know that the poster of this topic here is right: the update software actually shows the keyboard as having a supposedly newer version of the firmware already loaded. The software shows "2.37" as the current firmware version, and "V1.42" as the number of the version that I retrieved on the Samson website, and also the "file's description" box has this:"MK49 ,V1.42,Firmware,no init"

I'm not sure what any of this means but I do know that it's always been a bit difficult to set up a midi controller. But I think this one is particularly difficult. I've seen a video on You Tube where somebodies graphite actually hung whilst they were changing the setup of the sliders, and it wouldn't even turn off via the power switch!

I would settle for someone to just give me a list of what midi number all of the important functions of Cubase are, so that I can simply manually create functions to control Cubase from the keyboard.

That's all any of us want to do.
